The goal of this project was to create a vibrant and engaging poster for a Holi celebration at Topaz Farm on Sauvie Island, just outside Portland. Holi, the Hindu festival of colors, marks the arrival of spring and is celebrated through music, dance, community, and the joyful throwing of colored powders.
Hosted by DJ Anjali and The Incredible Kid, the event combined Bollywood and Bhangra music with Portland’s only Holi celebration featuring organic powders sourced from India and made from natural ingredients such as flowers, seeds, and vegetables.

Rather than relying on traditional festival imagery, I drew inspiration from hand-painted signage commonly found in markets and community celebrations. This approach gave the poster an expressive, human quality while helping it stand out from more conventional event marketing.

Typography became the focal point of the design. Hand-rendered letterforms create a sense of movement and spontaneity, echoing the energy of dance, music, and color that define the Holi experience. A bold, saturated color palette was inspired by the organic powders used during the celebration, connecting the visual language of the poster to both the cultural traditions of Holi and the farm setting at Topaz Farm.

The final design captures the spirit of the festival through color, rhythm, and atmosphere, creating a distinctive visual identity that feels energetic, welcoming, and culturally rooted.
