RECOGNITION

Graphis Design 2025 Silver Award

Ammi is a food stall located within Market 57, the waterfront food hall in New York City’s Hudson River Park. Named after the Urdu word for “mother,” the concept pays tribute to restaurateur Jimmy Rizvi’s mother, Suraiya Rizvi, whose family recipes inspired the menu and continue to shape the brand’s identity.

The project included the design of the logo, signage, stickers, and carry bags. The creative direction centered around the warmth, care, and nostalgia often associated with home-cooked meals and the memories they create. Drawing inspiration from Indian vernacular design, the visual identity blends contemporary and cultural elements to create a welcoming presence.

A key graphic element throughout the system is the tiffin, a familiar symbol of home cooking, care, and sharing food with loved ones. This motif reinforces the brand’s connection to family traditions and the idea that food is an expression of love.

Located within Market 57, a culinary destination curated by the James Beard Foundation, Ammi reflects a commitment to celebrating diverse food cultures while sharing generations of family recipes with a new audience.
