Graphis Design Annual Silver Award 2024

Chote Miya is a vibrant Indian street food restaurant in the heart of Chelsea Market, New York City. Embodying the essence of Mumbai’s bustling street food scene, the place invites its visitors to embark on a culinary adventure that celebrates Mumbai’s rich art and culture.

I was asked to create designs and illustrations that pay homage to India’s warm hospitality while showcasing the captivating allure of Mumbai’s diverse culinary delights, vibrant cinema, passion for sports, and lively streetscapes. The typography was crafted to seamlessly blend English and reverse Hinglish (English text in the Devanagari script) communication styles, allowing the viewer to embrace India’s cultural mosaic and bring an authentic street food experience to non-Hindi-speaking communities.

Inspired by the fascinating artistry of Indian streetscape, the typography displays a playful charm, featuring three-dimensional effects and perspectives commonly seen in truck art, signboards, film billboards, and hand-painted advertisements. The fusion of these artistic elements infuses Chote Miya with the vibrant energy of Mumbai’s vibrant streets.

The design strives to create an immersive experience beyond just the flavors on the plate. Inspired by Mumbai’s art and culture, the design invites visitors to savor the essence of India’s vibrant streets and indulge in the unique charm that makes Mumbai an unforgettable culinary destination.
