RECOGNITION

2024 Graphis Poster Silver Award

Humari Kahani was a live storytelling and music experience produced by The Tawoos Initiative and Virasat in Toronto, Canada. The event celebrated South Asian artists and musicians through a blend of performance, storytelling, and immersive theater, creating a platform for diverse voices and cultural expression.

To capture the spirit of the event, I developed a series of promotional posters inspired by Indian matchbox art. Known for its bold colors, expressive typography, and distinctive illustrations, this visual tradition provided a rich foundation for creating designs that felt both culturally rooted and contemporary.

The creative direction drew from the nostalgic qualities of vintage matchbox labels while highlighting the featured artists and performers. By combining vibrant color palettes, hand-crafted visual elements, and expressive typography, the posters celebrated South Asian cultural heritage while creating a strong visual presence for the event.

The designs resonated strongly with the South Asian diaspora community in Canada, creating an immediate sense of familiarity and connection. The positive audience response contributed to increased interest in the program and supported the expansion of the event to include additional South Asian artists and performers.
